Rise A Gay Fairy Tale (Gay Fairy Tales Book 2) - edition by Keira Andrews, Leta Blake. Romance eBooks @ . Reviews
Interesting take on "Jack and the Beanstalk" with a bit of magic, two very lonely men, and an enemies-to-lovers romance. The story was a bit sad at the beginning, but this made it even more meaningful when they eventually found happiness. As children, they were both raised to believe that the other person was evil. I liked how they learned to let go of this prejudice.
I got this for free this month from the Prime Lending Library, and it was definitely worth it. )
Short, but it felt like a very complete story. I really liked the twist on the Jack & The Beanstalk fairy tale, and the connection between Rion & Jack was great. Very interesting the concept of Jack's devilish red hair, and Rion's lonely existence in the clouds.
I did think that the prisoner part at the beginning was a little lengthy, as were their explosions of anger. It didn't really feel like them. Plus, it did seem that their relationship escalated a little more quickly than I would have liked, but part of that is probably due to the length of the story.
Overall, an enjoyable read and one I would recommend.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for a fair Review.
Rise is a same sex version of Jack and the Beanstalk. When I first saw it listed I thought "what a brilliant idea!" Well Keira Andrews delivers a first rate story.
I liked how the simplicity with which she told this tale....not so simple it was for children but he had a resemblance in the entire feeling of pardon the pun "Fairytale." ;)
The Valley people are raised to fear the Giant yet relish his riches, The Giant was raised with hate and disgust with the "outsiders."
Jack has really had a miserable life which rings true with all fairy tales and late one night decides to make the climb he's always wanted to make.
Will he be eaten and spit out or find the riches.
Give this book a read and find out. Better yet have a cup of tea, some biscuits and read it out loud to each other!
This was a lovely fairytale. I loved it so much.
The plot was an interesting reinvention of a classic fairytale. I enjoyed so much the characters. The internal struggle was fantastic, I loved the way both of them were trying to fight the way they felt, it was amazing. An extra point for Jack’s hair, I really love redheads.
It was very easy to get in touch with the main character’s feelings. Both of them were stunning, I just felt in love with them, a little more with Jack, but I still loved them both. There was something about the rejection Jack lived, that made me feel very protective towards him.
There was few things I didn’t like, perhaps the only one that comes to my mind right now, is the fact that it felt, somehow, a little predictable. Not entirely but a little. I still enjoyed it so much.
I would definitely recommend it to any reader looking for a sweet and fairytale like story.
I can't say enough good things about this brilliant take on "Jack and the Beanstalk". It's an original story that's very well told, and a sweet romance as well.
This was a fun take on Jack & the Beanstalk. I liked this cute and fluffy read but would have liked more background/explanation on the magic and the obligation of Rion's family. I liked both Jack and Rion and of course Jack's family were just horrible so you couldn't help but feel for him. I did love how the "giant" aspects of this story were handled. All in all a quick, light and fun read.
Great enemy to lovers story. Endearing characters, but so different and so alike at the same time!
This story pictures loneliness in all its aspects. It shows how one can be alone even when surrounded by others or feel lonely because you are really alone. It broke my heart, but I forgive the story because at the end I had this doopey smile on my face (the happy ending was the best)!
A sweet alternate telling of the classic Jack & The Beanstalk.
Poor Jack is flame haired and believed cursed for it. Apparently the townsfolk take the whole "gingers have no soul" thing pretty seriously.
It doesn't help that he's gay, and believes that his ginger locks, and the fact he wants a knight more than a maiden fair, is confirmation that he's the devil's spawn.
When Jack's only friend (his cow) is sold by his mother, without his permission, he tries to get her back and strikes a deal to get her back.
The only way he can think to repay the debt is to climb the stalk to the giant's castle and find (read steal) some of the treasure rumored to be guarded there. Apparently it's fine to steal other people's stuff if you're desperate? Not such a great morality tale at that point.
Rion, the "giant" in the castle, is the last of his family who guards the treasure and cares for the castle. He knows it's his duty to find a wife and have children to continue the line so the castle and treasure is safe...but even though he is so very lonely he dreams of a knight not a wife.
When Jack comes, after some initial fighting, they slowly begin to learn from each other, and quickly fall in love.
It's a sweet story with a cheer worthy HEA.
